Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce their six finalists for the 2009 Gibson's Finest Canadian Football League Player Awards - Joffrey Reynolds, Dwight Anderson, Dimitri Tsoumpas, Malik Jackson, Ben Archibald and Sandro DeAngelis.

These six team nominees were selected by seven members of the Football Reporters of Canada (Calgary chapter) as well as one ballot cast by the Stamps coaching staff.

They will now compete against other West Division team nominees for the right to represent the West at the Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards ceremony during Grey Cup week in Calgary.

The next round of winners will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 12 and the CFL Awards are Thursday, Nov. 26.

Here's a look at the six nominees:

Running back Joffrey Reynolds - Most outstanding player

Reynolds led all CFL rushers in 2008 and has put together another outstanding season in 2009. With one game remaining, he leads the league in rushing yards (1,397), yards from scrimmage (1,806), yards per carry (6.4 - minimum 100 carries), and 100-yard games (eight) and ranks second in touchdowns scored with a career-high 13 (11 rushing, two receiving). He has also added 34 receptions for 409 yards.

Defensive back Dwight Anderson - Most outstanding defensive player

Anderson established career highs with three interceptions, including a 52-yard interception return touchdown, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Anderson is among the team's leaders in tackles (51) and pass knockdowns (six). He has added a tackle for loss and a special-teams tackle. Anderson proved his versatility, stepping in to play boundary corner in Brandon Browner's absence.

Tackle Ben Archibald - Top offensive lineman

A key cog in the Stamps offensive line, Archibald has started all 17 games this season and has been a cornerstone in one of the league's top units. The Stamps lead the league in rushing yards per game (127.2), yards per carry (6.0) and are fourth in sacks allowed (33).

Guard Dimitri Tsoumpas - Top Canadian

The second-year guard was the only other Stamps offensive lineman to start all 17 games thus far in 2009. Tsoumpas continues to be a consistent member of the Stamps line and was a key component in achieving the rushing and passing stats noted above.

Linebacker Malik Jackson - Top rookie

Signed prior to the season, Jackson proved to be a talented athlete, starting at defensive end and linebacker during the season. He excelled at both and leads Calgary in tackles (61) and tackles for loss (five). Jackson has added two quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles, eight special-teams tackles and a pass knockdown.

Kicker Sandro DeAngelis - Top special teams player

The most accurate kicker in CFL history has enjoyed another excellent season. DeAngelis has converted 40 of 46 field goals for a league-high and career-best 87.0 percentage. He ranks second in the league with a 61.1-yard kickoff average and 169 points scored.

Tickets for the Stamps' home playoff game are on sale. Fans are encouraged to pick up their tickets by contacting Ticketmaster (403.777.0000 or online at Ticketmaster.ca) or visiting any local Safeway or Sport Chek location.
