It is with great sadness the Calgary Stampeders learn of the death of Burke Dales. A member of the Stampeders' 2008 Grey Cup-championship team, Dales was 46.

A native of Collingwood, Ont., who made Calgary his home after his football career, Dales played seven seasons (2005-11) with the Stampeders and was the West Division's all-star punter on four occasions and a Canadian Football League all-star two times. He also played for Edmonton and Montreal before retiring in 2013.

"Burke excelled during his career with the Stampeders and he brought an uncommon level of competitiveness to his position," said team president John Hufnagel. "We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends."

During his post-football career, Dales worked in the oil and gas industry as well as several other Calgary and Alberta businesses and was an active member of the Stampeders Alumni.

Prior to joining the Stampeders in 2005, Dales attended Concordia University in Montreal and tried out for the National Football League's Pittsburgh Steelers.
