Calgary Stampeders News Release
McMahon Stadium will be the site of the Western Final on Sunday when the Calgary Stampeders take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.
The Stamps will be hosting their third consecutive Western Final and fourth in the past five seasons. Calgary is 0-6 all-time against Winnipeg when playing with a Grey Cup berth on the line. Their last division-final matchup came in the form of a best-of-three series in 1965 with the Blue Bombers coming from behind to win the last two matchups.
Calgary finished with a league-best 13-5 record this year to earn a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Bombers wrapped up their regular season at 10-8 before beating the Roughriders 23-18 on the road in last week's Western Semi-Final.
These two teams spilt their two regular-season meetings in 2018 with each squad defending home field. The Red and White used a 20-point fourth quarter to claim a 39-26 victory in Week 11 before Winnipeg ultimately used a 20-point quarter of their own in claiming a 29-21 triumph in late October.
Sunday's winner will travel to Edmonton to meet either Ottawa or Hamilton in the 106th Grey Cup on Nov. 25.
Fan Zone fun
Pre-game festivities in the East parking lot from noon to 2 p.m. will include a DJ and photo booths, complimentary coffee and hot chocolate at the Tim Hortons Community Cruiser and an activation courtesy of Kubota. Former Stampeders offensive lineman Rocco Romano will be signing autographs as Dr. Oetker offers free pizza samples. There will also be two current players signing autographs from noon to 1 p.m.
Pre-game flag ceremony
Players and coaches from the Ernest Manning High School football team as well as the family of Ryan Doedel will be holding the Canadian flag during Sunday's national anthem. Ryan, a member of Ernest Manning's football team, lost his life in a tragic car accident last month.
Halftime
The year's three recipients of the Stan Schwartz - Heart of a Champion Awards will be recognized during halftime. The three student-athletes from the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association are being celebrated for their contributions to their team off the field, in their community and at their school in addition to their athletic and personal perseverance.
Halftime will also include a special tribute to those we have lost in our football family in 2018.
