Sioux Falls Stampede News Release


The Sioux Falls Stampede extended their winning streak to six games on Thursday, blanking the Lincoln Stars 1-0 at the Sioux Falls Arena. After a scoreless first period, the Stampede got on the board at 3:47 of the second when Tom Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, MN) deflected a Nate Prosser (Elk River, MN) shot into the net to give the Stampede a 1-0 lead. The Herd out-shot the Stars 11-7 in the period and held on for a 1-0 win. Greg Barrett (Troy, MI) made 23 saves in the win, earning his first career USHL shutout and his fifth win of the season.

On Friday, the Stampede fell to the Omaha Lancers 6-1 in Council Bluffs, IA. Corey Carlson recorded a hat-trick for the Lancers while Justin Milo (Eden Prarie, MN) recorded the lone goal for the Stampede in the game. John Murray (Lancaster, PA) turned aside 32 shots in goal for the Herd.

On Saturday, the Stampede squared off against Tri-City at the Sioux Falls Arena. Tri-City jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back, defeating the Stampede 6-2. Jon Globke (W. Bloomfield, MI) and Justin White (Traverse City, MI) tallied goals in the game for the Stampede while Barrett and Murray split time between the pipes, combining to make 21 saves in the game. The Stampede return home this weekend for games versus Des Moines and Lincoln.

SCOUTING DES MOINES AND LINCOLN

The Des Moines Buccaneers are currently 1-5-3 on the season and in fifth place in the East Division. The Bucs dropped a pair of games last weekend. On Saturday, they fell 1-0 in a shootout to Waterloo and on Sunday, they dropped a 3-2 decision to Cedar Rapids. Des Moines is currently winless (0-4-1) in their last five games.

The Lincoln Stars are currently in first place in the West Division with a 7-2-1 record. The Stars defeated Tri-City 3-2 in a shootout on Friday and Sioux City 4-2 on Saturday. Lincoln is 4-1-0 in their last five games.

Kellen Briggs earned his first shutout of the season, stopping all 23 shots faced versus UND Saturday. Alex Goligoski chipped in three assists on the weekend for the Gophers
