⢠Omaha's Brock Bradford continued to sizzle over the weekend with a three-assist game against Sioux Falls on Friday night. Bradford's 15 points (5G, 10A) in nine games lead America's Tier I League.
⢠Omaha currently boasts the USHL's top three scorers: Bradford, Trevor Smith (8G, 6A) and Corey Carlson (6G, 8A). The Lancers also feature the league's stingiest defense thus far with only 19 goals against.
⢠Lincoln's Jared Boll currently leads America's Tier I League in penalty minutes (62) and ranks second overall in goals (7).
⢠Cedar Rapids goaltender Dan Tormey turned in his first shutout of the season on Friday against Chicago (3-0). His RoughRiders finally suffered their first loss of the season the next night when the Steel avenged the previous night's defeat 3-1. The RoughRiders still lead the East Division by two points over Indiana which has yet to lose a home game in regulation time.
⢠Alumni Notes:
Merrimack's Bryan Schmidt (Tri-City) is Hockey East's third-highest scoring defenseman thus far with three goals and three assists... Hockey East's No. 1 and No. 2 freshmen scorers are USHL graduates: Peter MacArthur (Waterloo) and Matt Fornataro (Waterloo)... Minnesota's Ryan Potulny (Lincoln), a former USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year, is the WCHA's leading goal scorer thus far with seven in five games.
LPH/USHL Offensive Player of the Week:
Blake Wheeler - Green Bay Gamblers
Wheeler (Plymouth, MN) the No. 5 overall pick by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2004 NHL draft, tallied four points in the Gamblers 5-4 victory over the Indiana Ice Saturday night. Green Bay's Blake Wheeler currently ranks seventh among all USHL scorers with six goals and four assists in eight games.
LPH/USHL Defensive Player of the Week:
Drew O'Connell - Waterloo Black Hawks
O'connell (Anchorage, AK)against Des Moines Saturday night, stopped all 33 shots as well as stopping all of the Buc's shoot-out attempts. The shutout earned Drew sole possession of top goaltending position in the USHL for both goals against and save percentage.
