
Stampede Weekly Update: Herd Return Home New Year's Eve

Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
The Sioux Falls Stampede (8-13-1) are back in action this week with two road games before returning home this Saturday for a special New Year's Eve tilt against Des Moines at 5:05 PM. Please note the start time of the game this year. Des Moines enters the week with a 10-11-1 record and in fifth place in the Western Conference.
Prior to facing the Bucs, the Stampede will travel to the windy city this Wednesday to face the Chicago Steel at 7:30 PM. The Steel are 8-15-1 and in 8th place in the Eastern Conference. On Friday, Sioux Falls will travel to Dubuque to face the Fighting Saints in a rematch of last year's Western Conference Finals. The Saints are now in the Eastern Conference and in 2nd with a 16-7-1 record. Friday's game will start at 6:05 PM. You can catch all the action on KELO-AM 1320 and online at www.keloam.com
Family Fun planned for New Year's Eve
Start your New Year's Eve fun with the Stampede this Saturday at 5:05 PM. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a free party favor to ring in the new year, courtesy of Party America! Stay in your seats in between periods for the ever popular Giant Human Slingshot and the return of Sumo Hockey!
McDonald's skating party on New Year's Eve!
Bring your skates to the game on Saturday and skate with your favorite Stampede players for 30-minutes after the game! Fans can meet the players and get autographs on the ice immediately following the game. For non-skating fans, several players will be made available outside the Stampede locker room for autographs.
Please note the Sioux Falls Arena does not rent skates, so make sure to bring yours to the game!
Stampede viewing party change
The Stampede announced today that due to a scheduling conflict with Buffalo Wild Wings, the Herd's game Friday at Dubuque will not be shown there. The first viewing party will take place on Monday, January 16th versus Fargo. Fans can catch the game on all the TV big screens at both Sioux Falls locations (across from Pheasants stadium & the new South Louise Avenue location) starting at 7 PM.
Below are the dates of the games that will be shown at Buffalo Wild Wings:
* Monday, January 16th at Fargo 7 PM
* Friday, January 27th vs Sioux City 7 PM
* Friday, February 10th at Des Moines 7 PM
* Friday, March 2nd at Sioux City 7 PM
Inside Stampede Hockey to air live from Buffalo Wild Wings on January 9
Fans mark your calendars for Monday, January 9th for a special edition of Inside Stampede Hockey, live from Buffalo Wild Wings. The show will air from 5-6 PM on Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN. Fans can watch the show live, plus meet several Stampede players and head coach Kevin Hartzell. Fans will also have a chance to win some special Stampede prizes during the show!
Bickel off to impressive start with Rangers
Former Stampede defenseman Stu Bickel became the 16th former Stampede player to skate in the NHL on December 20th when he made his debut with the New York Rangers against the New Jersey Devils and the fifth player this season to make his debut.
In four games with the Rangers, Bickel has already recorded four assists and 16 penalty minutes. He logged a career high 13:54 of ice time last night and got into his first fight in a 3-0 shutout of the New York Islanders. The win put the Rangers in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 22-8-4 record. The Rangers will play the Philadelphia Flyers on January 2nd from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The Rangers are part of the HBO series 24/7 which airs again this Wednesday at 9 PM.
Bickel was a key member of the Stampede's Clark Cup championship team (2006-07), recording 13 points (2g, 11a) and a franchise record 215 penalty minutes.
Rau & Oleksiak playing in World Junior Tournament
Former Stampede stars Kyle Rau and Jamie Oleksiak are playing for their respective countries in the World Junior Championship in Canada. Rau tallied two goals last night for Team USA in an 11-3 drubbing of Denmark. Oleksiak was a +2 for Team Canada in their 8-1 thumping of Finland. The teams will play in a round-robin format before the quarterfinals begin on January 2nd. The tournament concludes on January 5th with the Gold Medal game.
