Stampede Weekly Update: Herd Face Western Conference Foes this Week

The Stampede (19-11-4) will look to continue their strong play this week with three games in four days, all against Western Conference opponents. The Stampede have won 8 of their last 9 games and are currently in fourth place in the West.

The Herd travel to Omaha on Wednesday in a battle for third place in the West. Game time is 7:05 PM. The Herd trail Omaha by just two points for third place. Sioux Falls will then travel to Lincoln for a rare Friday/Saturday weekend series against the Stars. Game times are 7:05 PM each night from the Icebox.

The Stampede are currently in the middle of an eight-game road trip. Sioux Falls is 7-5-3 on the road this season.

Stampede top Waterloo on Saturday

Andrew Prochno's return to Waterloo was a memorable one on Saturday night. He recorded two goals and an assist to help lead the Stampede to a 6-4 victory over the Black Hawks.

The Stampede led 5-1 in the third period, but Waterloo made things interesting. The Hawks cut the Stampede's lead to one with just under four minutes remaining, but Connor Reilly sealed the game with a goal with 2:55 left in regulation.

Stephon Williams stopped 24 shots to earn his seventh straight win in goal.

Hockey Headquarters Youth Hockey Player of the Week

The Stampede have announced that they are teaming up with Hockey Headquarters in Sioux Falls for the Youth Hockey Player of the Week.

Coaches are encouraged to download the nomination form on the front page of the Stampede website. Click here for more information.

Each week one player, regardless of age or gender, will be randomly selected as the Hockey Headquarters Youth Hockey Player of the Week. That player will receive a $25 gift card to Hockey Headquarters and four tickets to a Stampede game of their choice.

"Teddy Bear Toss" Feb. 13

Sunday, February 13th is the Avera McKennan/Orthopedic Institute "Teddy Bear Toss" night. Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to the game and toss them onto the ice after the Herd's first goal against Tri-City.

All bears that are collected will be brought to the pediatric unit of Avera McKennan Hospital and delivered by Stampede players who will be visiting the hospital later that week.

It is also "Sweetheart Night" at the arena. Couples are encouraged to register the lobby for your chance to compete in the "Newlywed Game" in between periods. Three lucky couples will compete to see who is the best match. The top couple will take home a prize package including a hotel stay at the Springhill Suites, dinner for two at Famous Dave's, and ice cream cake from Family Treats Homemade Ice Cream and more!

4th annual Sioux Nation Pet Clinic "Wiener Dog Race" set for February 19th

Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 19th when the Stampede host Sioux City at 7:05 PM for the 4th annual Sioux Nation Pet Clinic "Wiener Dog Race."

Berenguer leading the way for Hamline

Former Stampede star defenseman Chris Berenguer is having another award winning season with Division III Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. The Eden Prairie, MN native leads the Pipers in defensive scoring with 24 points (12g, 12a) and a plus -14 rating in 18 games. His 24 points are second best amongst all Division III defenseman.

The Pipers lead the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) with a 7-0-3 record and are 12-3-4 overall. The senior captain finished last season with 28 points (6g, 22a) was named an All-American at the end of the season becoming the Hamline's first ever two time All-American.

Berenguer was a key part of the Stampede's Anderson Cup championship team during the 2005-06 season, recording 22 points (5g, 17a) and a plus-21 rating in 57 games.
