Stampede prepare for Cedar Rapids this weekend

The Sioux Falls Stampede saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-3 loss yesterday afternoon to the Omaha Lancers. The Stampede are now 26-15-3 and in third place in the West Division. The Stampede trail second place Sioux City by four points and first place Omaha by five points.

The Stampede got goals from Ryan Guentzel, Brad Malone, and Patrick Tiesling and built a 3-1 lead after two periods against the Lancers. Omaha responded in the third however, scoring three unanswered goals, with the eventual game winner coming on the powerplay with just 25 seconds remaining in regulation.

The regulation loss was the first in nine games at home for the Stampede who are now 11-9-3 at the Sioux Falls Arena.

This weekend the Stampede will travel to Cedar Rapids to face the Rough Riders for a weekend series. The Riders are 27-15-3 on the season and two points back of Waterloo for first place in the East Division. Game times this weekend are set for 7:05 PM.

SIGNING THIS TUESDAY-

Bring your Stampede team poster insert from the Argus Leader to the Empire Mall tomorrow (Tuesday 3/6) for a special autograph signing with the players from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Harvest Café Food Court area, just outside Younkers.

Players will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for photos during that time.

Be sure to also mark your calendars for next Wednesday, March 14th for the 8th annual "Tip a Stampede Night" at Granite City Food & Brewery. Stampede players will work with the wait staff from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, collecting tips that will benefit the "Stampede Foundation For Kids." More information on this event will be made available next week.

STAMPEDE VS WATERLOO GAME RESCHEDULED FOR APRIL 4-

The Stampede have announced that their game vs Waterloo that was to be played last Friday has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 4 at 7:05 PM. Fans who had tickets to the game on March 2nd can use those tickets on April 4th.

The Game was postponed due to bad weather in the Midwest, preventing the Black Hawks from making it into town.

THREE PLAYERS TO JOIN STAMPEDE THIS WEEKEND-

The Stampede will add three fresh faces to their lineup this weekend when they face Cedar Rapids. Jordy Christian, Jeff Foss and Jake Hansen all completed their high school season's late last week and will join the Stampede later this week.

Christian (5'10" 165) and Foss (6'3" 195) were made available after Moorhead was upset by Roseau 1-0 in the Section 8 AA Final. Christian, a forward, led the Spuds in scoring with 65 points (28g, 37a) in 26 games. He played in two games earlier in the season with the Stampede, recording two points (1g, 1a). Foss, a defenseman, recorded 46 points (15g, 31a) in 26 contests for Moorhead this season.

Jake Hansen (6'1" 182), the brother of Stampede defenseman, Zach, and his White Bear Lake Bears fell 3-1 to Hill-Murray in the Section 3 AA championship game Friday night. Hansen finished the year as the Bears top scorer with 71 points (28g, 43a) in 28 games. He registered a point in all, but three games this season.

Zach Hansen has five assists and is a +7 in his last 10 games. He leads the Herd in the +/- category with a +13

The Stampede enter this weekend's tilt at Cedar Rapids with the best road record in the USHL at 15-6-0.

The Stampede are 12-6-1 versus the East Division this season.

Last night marked just the third time this season that the Stampede have lost a game in regulation when leading after two periods. The Herd are still 19-3-2 when leading after two this season.

MOTZKO TO APPEAR ON INSIDE STAMPEDE HOCKEY TODAY-

Former Stampede head coach Bob Motzko will appear on "Inside Stampede Hockey" today at 5 PM on AM-1230 KWSN. In just his second year as head coach at St. Cloud State, Motzko led the Huskies to a second place finish in the WCHA and are in line for a #1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
