A native of White Bear Lake, MN, Hansen is in his first season with the Stampede and has recorded 12 points (6g, 6a) in 23 games. Last week he tallied an assist in a win over Waterloo and a goal in a loss to Sioux City.

At Quinnipiac, Hansen will join fellow teammate Jake Bauer who committed to the University over the summer. Hansen becomes the ninth Stampede player to commit to a Division I school this year.

"You win with people like Zach," said Stampede head coach Kevin Hartzell. "He competes very hard, every shift, every game. He is an excellent skater with great feet, good vision and great passing ability. Quinnipiac has gotten two excellent defensemen from us in getting both Hansen and Jake Bauer," added Hartzell.

Hansen, a first round draft pick (12th overall) by the Stampede in the 2006 Entry Draft, spent last season playing for White Bear Lake High School. In 16 games with the Bears, Hansen posted 25 points on six goals and 19 assists.

STAMPEDE RELEASE MILLER-

The Stampede also announced today that they have released forward Joe Miller from their roster. The coaching staff is currently working on placing Miller with a North American Hockey League (NAHL) club.

"This was an extremely difficult decision for me to make as a coach," said head coach Kevin Hartzell. "Joey is a quality person, has great character, is an excellent athlete and a winner. He has some skating limitations that are holding his progress back and as a coach, you have to look at time, other players development and so on. I just thought it best that he play more elsewhere and continue to work on improving his skating."

The Stampede now have an opening on their roster and will be looking to fill that spot in the near future.

STAMPEDE HELP SPREAD

HOLIDAY CHEER-

Stampede players, coaches and staff helped spread some holiday cheer last week. On Thursday, the Stampede visited the Volunteers of America "Head Start Program" where they delivered gifts to 60 students

Daniels Construction graciously purchased all the presents for the children. While opening gifts, the children and players enjoyed special ice cream treats donated by Cold Stone Creamery in Sioux Falls. The Stampede players read to the children, sang nursery rhymes, demonstrated their hockey equipment and helped pass out gifts.

On Friday, the Stampede visited the pediatric unit at Sioux Valley Hospital where they passed out gifts and signed autographs for children who can't make it home for the holiday season.
