
Stampede Make Eight Selection in Phase I of USHL Draft

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede Hockey Club drafted eight players in Phase I of the USHL Draft. The Phase I selections consist of five forwards, two defensemen, and a goaltender.
The Stampede made eight selections in Phase I of the 2024 USHL Draft. The USHL Draft is separated into two phases. The first phase consists of "futures" who are players that will be under-17 in the upcoming season. For 2024, all players in the Phase I Draft were born in 2008.
The Stampede started their draft day by selecting Noah Kosick with the sixth pick of the 2024 USHL Phase I Draft. The center from North Saanich, B.C. was born in Germany and holds both Canadian and American citizenship. The University of Michigan commit recorded 62 points in 29 games for the Pacific Coast Academy U18 Prep.
The Herd did not make another selection till the third round. With the 36th selection of the draft the Stampede took forward Cooper Soller from Los Angeles, C.A. He recorded 72 points in 57 games for Shattuck St. Mary's 15U. With their 4th-round pick, the Herd took goaltender Kaenan Smith from Duluth, M.N. He played 19 games for Duluth Marshall during the 2023-2024 season where he held a .934 save percentage.
In the 5th round, the Stampede took another forward in Luke Wilfley. Wilfley, out of Englewood, C.O. plays for Okanagan 15U Prep. In the next round, the Herd took their first defenseman of the draft, Jacob Xu from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. With their sixth pick of the draft, the Stampede selected their second foreigner in Russian forward Alexey Vlasov.
Sioux Falls did not have an 8th-round pick and with their 9th-round pick they took defenseman Nicklas Nelson from Monticello, M.N. The Stampede's final selection of Phase I came in round 10 with pick 141. With their final pick, the team drafted forward Cade Kinnear from Albany, N.Y. Kinnear played for Carolina Premier Hockey 15U during the 2023-2024 season.
"We are very excited about the talent we selected with our eight picks today," Stampede General Manager Tony Gasparini said. "Our scouting team did an excellent job of identifying our long-term needs and we are excited to welcome these players to Stampede Country."
Phase II of the USHL Draft will begin at 11 am CT tomorrow. Phase II allows teams to fill in their Protected List to 45 players. Players eligible for Phase II are born between 2004-2008. Fans can follow the action on the Stampede's social media platforms and the USHL website.
