Stampede Express Set for Season Opener

April 1, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - San Angelo Stampede Express News Release

The Stampede Express are coming off a 2008 season in which they finishedwith a 5-9 regular season record. San Angelo finished the regular season on a four game winning streak and just fell short of the playoffs. With a new season on the brink and a new Head Coach the Stampede Express look to continue where they left off as part of the Indoor Football League.

San Angelo enters the 2009 season looking very strong under first year Head Coach Sonny Cumbie. Offensively the Stampede Express welcome back RB Brannon Hatley, WR Antwon Courington and WR Tavarras Williams. The high powered newly installed offense will be run by first year starting QB Trevor Scharer from Linfield College, with a strong arm and precision accuracy look for Scharer to put up big numbers by getting the ball to his receivers and putting up a lot points for the Stampede Express this season.

Defensively the Stampede Express has a solid Defensive line in Darryl Richard NT, Jonathan Hamm DE and Clay Harrell DE and with three lock down Corners in Jason Snell, Alex Otoo and Nile Legania, this Stampede Express defensive will be hard to score on.

The Colorado Ice are coming off a loss in their first game of the season to the Billings Outlaws 46-41. The Ice gave up huge chunks of yards on the ground (135) and gave up 275 total yards in their loss.

This is the first ever meeting between these two teams in the newly formed IFL.
