San Angelo Stampede Express News Release
San Angelo, TX- The San Angelo Stampede Express (3-4) head into this weeks game against division leading El Paso Generals (5-2) looking to get back in the thick of things and climb right back into the Lonestar division race. With a San Angelo victory and an Abilene Ruff Riders (5-3) loss the Stampede Express will only be one game back of first place.
After defeating the Corpus Christi Hammerheads last week 52-50 the San Angelo Stampede Express were able to snap a four game skid and put them selves back into the playoff picture. Now the San Angelo Stampede Express travel to El Paso and will look towards defensive standouts Trea Ivory, Jason Snell and Jonathan Hamm to slow down one of the top five offenses in the IFL, and one of the keys to slowing down the Generals offense is slowing down QB Tommy Jones. "In order to slow down Jones we are going to have to keep him from getting the ball out of his hands so quickly, we need to be able to give our defensive line time to get back there and put some pressure on him, if we are able to do that then we will be able to cause some turnovers and put our offense in a great position to score", said Interim Head Coach Billy Ray. "For us we are coming off a huge win and we have carried that energy and momentum into practice, we feel confident we can get the job done this Saturday night and bring another victory home to San Angelo", said Coach Ray.
El Paso on the other hand is coming off a disappointing 35-45 loss to the Abilene Ruff Riders last Saturday. Abilene jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and El Paso was unable to recover and lost for only the second time on the season narrowing their lead in the Lonestar Division to just a half a game over second place Abilene.
QB Tommy Jones and the Generals will look to get the ball to top receiver DeAngelo Woodie quick and often this week against San Angelo. When Woodie, who leads the team in receptions and touchdowns scores two or more times a game the Generals are 4-0.
This meeting between San Angelo and El Paso is the second of four meetings with El Paso winning the first meeting 53-33. The Stampede will travel to El Paso again next week for their third meeting on the year before returning back to the San Angelo Coliseum to take on the Corpus Christ Hammerheads.
