Stampede continue road trip this weekend

STAMPEDE UPDATE: The Stampede were on the road in Iowa last weekend with games versus Waterloo and Des Moines.

Friday, January 30th at Waterloo: The Black Hawks defeated the Stampede 3-1 on Friday night in Waterloo. The Herd jumped out to a 1-0 lead 1:19 into the game on Bill Menozzi’s second goal of the season. Waterloo tied the game at 11:04 on a goal by Tim Madsen. The Black Hawks then tallied goals in the second and third period to gain a 3-1 win over Sioux Falls. Kasey Moreland made 28 saves in the game for the Stampede.

Saturday, January 31st at Des Moines: The Bucs’ defeated the Stampede 8-3 in Des Moines on Saturday night. The Stampede scored 37 seconds into the game on Matt Ford’s 19th goal of the season. Down 2-1 in the second, Drew Sando notched his 10th goal of the year on the power play to tie the game at two. Jim McKenzie then added a short-handed goal to give the Stampede a 3-2 lead midway through the second period. Des Moines responded with three unanswered goals in the period, en route to an 8-3 victory. Despite the loss, the Stampede still own a 3-2-0 record against the Bucs’ this season. Craig Vardy made 38 saves in the first two periods while Kasey Moreland stopped 12 shots in the third for the Stampede.

UP NEXT: The Stampede continue their road trip this weekend with games against Lincoln and River City. On Friday, the Stampede will be in Lincoln, NE taking on the Stars. The herd owns a 3-1-0 record this season versus the Stars. On Saturday, the Stampede will be in Council Bluffs, IA taking on River City. The Stampede defeated the Lancers 8-4 back on January 14th.

STARS UPDATE: The Stars dropped two games over the weekend. On Friday, Lincoln fell 1-0 to Sioux City. On Saturday, the Stars dropped a 3-2 decision to River City. Lincoln enters this weekend with a 21-17-3 record and sit in fourth place in the West with 45 points. The Stars hold a seven point lead over the Des Moines Buccaneers for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West. Adam Bartholomay leads the Stars in scoring with 36 points (18g, 18a) while Phillippe Lamoureux has seen the majority of the time between the pipes, posting a 17-2-2 record with a 2.46 GAA.

LANCERS UPDATE: The Lancers enter this weekend on a three-game winning streak. Last Friday, the Lancers defeated Cedar Rapids 7-2. Paul Stastny had a goal and four assists in the win for the Lancers. On Saturday, River City posted a 3-2 win over Lincoln. The Lancers are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games and have moved up into a first place tie with Tri-City with a 27-10-3 record and 57 points. Stastny currently leads the USHL in scoring with 50 points (19g, 31a). Jeff Lerg and Marty Magers have split time between the pipes this season. Lerg is 15-3-0 on the year with a 2.27 GAA while Magers is 12-7-3 on the year with a 2.58 GAA.

TEAM LEADER: Jim McKenzie currently leads the Stampede in goals (19), assists (25), points (44), plus/minus (plus-8) and shots (133).

HOT HOT HOT: McKenzie and Ford continue to pile up the points. In their last 10 games, Ford has 17 points (10-7) and McKenzie has 16 (6-10).

DID YOU KNOW? Team captain, Jim McKenzie presently ranks fourth in the USHL in scoring with 44 points. Matt Ford is ninth with 40 points (19-21).

PLAYHOUSE PROMENADE: Fans, check out the four spectacular new playhouses on display at The Empire Mall (JC Penney's Wing). The life-like mini-homes are on display through the month of February and will be sold by a silent bid. Interested home owners can pick up a bid sheet at the playhouses or through the Stampede website (www.sfstampede.com).

FAMILY NIGHT: The third “Family Night” of the season will take place this Sunday night when the Stampede face-off at the Sioux Falls Arena versus the Tri-City Storm. For $28 fans will receive: Four (4) Stampede game tickets in the $7 seating area; Four (4) Hot Dogs; Four (4) Soft Drinks; One (1) Family Size Tub of Popcorn and a $4-off SHELL Gasoline coupon from the Gas Stop Stores. Family Night tickets can be purchased at the Stampede office or prior to the game at the arena on Sunday night.

FREE BOOKS! The Volunteers of America will be on hand during this Sunday’s home game to distribute FREE READING BOOKS and BOOKMARKS to every child 12 and under in attendance. It's part of a promotional effort by the Stampede to help promote Literacy with our young fans!
