Stallions Run-Rule Albany 14-2 in Seven Innings

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - A consistent offensive output propelled the Saugerties Stallions to a 14-2 seven inning mercy rule win over the Albany Dutchmen on Tuesday night at Cantine Field. It was the Stallions' first mercy rule win this season.

The Dutchmen struck in the top of the first on a Nick Schwartz (St. John's) RBI single that plated Ryan McGee (Siena). It was the only run that Stallions starting pitcher Zach Byron (Wofford) allowed.

In the bottom of the first, Tyler Kelder (Florida Atlantic) delivered the Stallions' first and decisive lead with his third home run of the season, a two-run blast to left field against Anthony Amoroso (New Paltz), who received the loss.

Saugerties dropped a five-spot on five hits in the bottom of the second inning to open up a 7-1 lead. Andrew Wilhite (Minnesota), Max Morris (St. Thomas), Josh Stevenson (LSU), and Kip Fougerousse (Indiana) all recorded RBI in the frame.

The scoring continued in the fourth inning for the home team. After reaching base via single, Stevenson was eventually brought around on a Kelder RBI fielder's choice to take an 8-1 edge.

Byron, who picked up the win, was pulled after finishing his fifth frame. The lefty retired the final six batters that he faced. He finished with five strikeouts, one walk, four hits allowed, and one run allowed.

The fifth inning proved to be another fruitful frame for the Stallions. Morris plated two runs on a single, which also allowed Jarrett Brown (Georgia Southern) to come home on an error to put them up 11-1.

After both teams were held scoreless in the sixth, Albany graced the scoreboard again in the top of the seventh.

Christian Kondo (Stetson) drove home the team's second run of the night on an RBI single.

Leading 11-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Stallions needed three runs to invoke the mercy rule. They'd get that via a Morris two-RBI single and a passed ball that plated Brown.

With the win, Saugerties ups its record to 24-9. Albany drops to 18-19.

The Stallions host Amsterdam tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
