Saugerties Stallions News Release
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions win their sixth straight game as they defeat the Glens Falls Dragons in eight innings 13-3 Saturday night.
The Dragons scored early in the top of first inning when center fielder Phillip Krpata scored on an errant throw by shortstop Evan Goforth to make the Dragons go up 1-0.
The game fell silent in the second inning, with both pitchers only allowing one hit in both frames.
The Stallions, however, would tie the game at 1 due to a passed ball getting by catcher Kyle McNeff and scoring Goforth.
The scoring stopped in the fourth inning, but the Dragons put two runs up in the top of the fifth inning when second baseman Mario Cubello roped a single into right field to score extra hitter Will Minett and have Krpata trot home on another errant throw to make it 3-1 Glens Falls.
The Stallions would open up offensively in the bottom of the fifth.
After two runners got on base, second baseman Brandon Fish lined an RBI single to cut the Dragon lead to 3-2.
Soon after, first baseman Garrett Michel hit a triple that scored two runners to take the lead at 4-3. Catcher JP Tighe would follow up on that with a two RBI double to increase the Stallion lead to 6-3.
Designated hitter David Shackelford sacrificed his at bat to score Easton Bertrand to tally another run for Saugerties. Third baseman Kip Fougerousse drove an RBI single to score Tighe to make it an 8-2 ballgame.
After the seven-run inning for the Stallions, Saugerties would add two more runs with an RBI triple by left fielder Garrison Berkley and Michel reaching on base via an error by the Dragon left fielder in Quentin Bowman.
The team would add another run in the bottom of the seventh when extra hitter Colin Mackle hit a triple to score Fougerousse to make it 9-3 Saugerties.
The fatal blow to Glens Falls would happen in the eighth inning where the Stallions plated two runs. Right fielder Easton Bertrand sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Fish and Tighe roped an RBI double to score the game clinching run via mercy rule.
The Stallions now improve to 21-15-1 on the year with the Amsterdam Mohawks heading into town Sunday night with first pitch set at 7:05 p.m. You can catch all the action on the Saugerties Stallions YouTube channel.
