Saugerties Stallions News Release

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions' win streak ends at three games after a 5-1 defeat to the Amsterdam Mohawks at Cantine Field Sunday night.

Right-handed pitcher Jake Kolkhorst started the game on the mound, striking out his first two batters faced. After giving up a single, Kolkhorst forced a ground ball to end the inning.

Saugerties would get a runner on via a leadoff walk by second baseman Max Cotier, but the team would go down in order.

The second inning would show both teams going down, keeping the score at 0-0.

Amsterdam would open up the scoring on a two-RBI single by right fielder Zach Gardiner to make it 2-0 Mohawks.

Stallions could not get baserunners on in the third inning.

Amsterdam would continue the scoring after an error made by Cotier scores two runs to make it 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Saugerties would tack on their first hit of the night thanks to a double by third baseman Brandon Fish. He would not come home, leaving the Stallions scoreless.

Kolkhorst's night would end after four innings, giving up four runs with one hit, two strikeouts, and five walks.

The next two innings would show scoreless baseball, until the top of the seventh inning when Amsterdam's second baseman Gage Miller scored on an error made by relief pitcher Praxie Vigil to go up 5-0.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Stallions would load the bases with one out due to two walks and a single by extra hitter Brett Heckert, but those baserunners would not convert to runs.

The Mohawks would remain off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, and the Stallions scored a run thanks to an RBI single by first baseman Kip Fougerousse to decrease the deficit to a 5-1 game.

Amsterdam would be kept off the scoreboard in the ninth inning, giving Saugerties a shot to create a miracle.

Shortstop Alex Rodriguez got on base via an infield single, but would not advance as catcher Niko Amory struck out swinging to end the game.

The Stallions fall to 13-12 on the year, with their next game being the annual Fourth of July game against the Albany Dutchmen, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. You can watch the game on the Saugerties Stallions YouTube channel.
