Saugerties Stallions News Release

Saugerties, N.Y.- The Saugerties Stallions (17-16) fell to Mohawk Valley (23-11) after they got the bats going late in the game, to assure their 3-2 victory on Sunday night at Cantine Field.

The Stallions scored their first run early on in the game, coming in just the bottom of the third inning. Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure), hit a single to bring Fritz Genther (Virginia) across home plate.

Both teams were at a pitching battle for most of the game, bringing up zeros across the score board for many innings. Nolan Burchill (Minnesotta), pitched a strong seven innings, only allowing three hits, with just two earned runs.

The action began in the eighth inning and continued right down to the final pitch of the night. The DiamondDawgs scored all their runs in the top of the eighth. One due to a player being hit by a pitch, one due to a sacrifice fly, and the third due to a wild pitch.

Connor Stapelton (Concordia) was the winning pitcher tonight, after only pitching one full inning and only allowing one hit. Jeff Hayner (Niagra) receives the loss along with the Stallions.

The Stallions will be back in action with a double header on Wednesday night against the Amsterdam Mohawks beginning at 5 p.m.
