Saugerties Stallions News Release
Saugerties, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions (15-11) scored just one run in the bottom of the seventh as the Albany Dutchmen (16-10) won convincingly 5-1 at Cantine Field on the Fourth of July. Nick Grabek (Fairfield) made his fifth start of the season for the Dutchmen and was dominant in his 4.2 innings of work. Grabek allowed no runs and just four hits, adding five strikeouts as well.
The Stallions could never quite get the bats going at the right time, as they out-hit Albany by a 9-7 margin, but were only able to bring the one run home.
Saugerties put hits together in all but two innings, as eight of the nine hits were singles. The lone extra-base hit was credited to Jake Skrine (Indiana), who doubled in the first.
Billy Black (Columbia) started for Saugerties, making his fourth start of the year. The sophomore pitched well, but two Stallions errors allowed two unearned runs as Black gave up a total of four runs. Black's final stat line was five innings of work with five strikeouts and four hits allowed with four walks as well.
Griffin Davis (Georgia Southern) relieved Black in the sixth inning, and pitched three great innings. The redshirt sophomore allowed just one run, a solo homer to Justin Bench (Ole Miss) who went deep for the third time this season. Davis struck out six batters and allowed just a total of three hits in his seventh appearance out of the bullpen this year.
Albany used a total of four pitchers, with Jack Delaney (St. John Fisher) relieving Grabek with two out in the fifth. Delaney set down all four batters he faced in his 1.1 innings on the mound.
Greg Allard (Saint Rose) allowed the lone Stallion run, a Mitchell Sanford (LSU) RBI in the seventh. Sanford plated Nolen Hester (Wofford), who reached base earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice.
The Stallions dropped their first home game since June 21st , now winning eight of their last ten.
Meanwhile, Albany has now won five in a row.
