UTICA, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions fall to 7-8 on the year after dropping both games in a doubleheader against the Utica Blue Sox Wednesday night.
In the 3-0 loss in Game 1, the score remained 0-0 until the fourth inning when right fielder Chris Fernandez of Utica drove in center fielder Avery Lee for the game's first run.
In the fifth inning, shortstop Troy Hamilton roped in an RBI double to score first baseman Edwin Tavarez to make it 2-0 Blue Sox.
Utica made it 3-0 in the sixth inning when designated hitter Dewey Roden hit an RBI single to score third baseman Daedrick Cail.
The Stallions loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning, but could not drive home any runs, thus losing the game.
In Game 2, things started off differently for Saugerties when designated hitter Jahlani Rogers scored on an error by first baseman Roden.
Heading into the top of the third inning, right fielder Garrison Berkley scored shortstop Evan Goforth on an RBI single to go up 2-0.
Utica, however, would get on the board with an RBI double hit by extra hitter Ryan Enos to score center fielder Easton Brenner to cut the lead to one run.
Saugerties would strike back in the top of the fifth inning when third baseman Brandon Fish scored Rogers on an RBI double to make it a 3-1 lead for the Stallions.
The bottom of the fifth inning for Saugerties showed disaster as three runs came across the plate for Utica off three different RBI singles by second baseman Luke Odden, Roden and left fielder Lukas Schramm to give the Blue Sox a 4-3 lead.
Utica's lead would increase into the sixth inning as Enos hit an RBI double to score catcher Kade Reinertson and a sacrifice fly by Cail would send Brenner home to give the Stallions a 6-3 deficit heading to the top of the seventh inning.
Saugerties managed to score two runs on a hit by pitch to Fish to score catcher Niko Amory and a fielder's choice by Skrine to have Rogers cross home plate to make it a 6-5 game.
The Stallions could not finish the rally as they flew out to the shortstop in Brady Short to end the game.
The Stallions take on the Amsterdam Mohawks Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at Cantine Field. You can catch all the action on the Saugerties Stallions YouTube channel.
