Houston Comets News Release
HOUSTON - The WNBA announced today that Houston Comets point guard Dawn Staley has been chosen as a participant in today's inaugural Three-Point Shoot Out competition. She will replace New York guard Becky Hammon who suffered an ankle injury during the Liberty's contest vs. Phoenix last Sunday.
The 3-point Shootout, which also features Diana Taurasi, Katie Douglas, Mwadi Mabika, Tamika Catchings and Katie Smith, will begin today at 12:30 CDT and air live on NBA TV. The players will compete in the two-round competition with the top three finishers from the first round advancing to the finals. Five shooting stations will be set up around the three-point line, with four WNBA balls each worth one point and one "money ball" worth two points at each location.
Staley (5-6, Virginia) currently leads the league in 3-point shooting percentage, connecting on 50.0 percent (31-62 3FG) of her attempts from behind the arc. Now in her eight and final WNBA season, she is averaging 7.1 points, 2.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 21 games (21 starts).
