St. Louis stifles Stars, 4-1

Traverse City North Stars News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - There is little margin for error when playing the best teams in the North American Hockey League, and the Traverse City North Stars found that out firsthand Friday at Centre ICE Arena, dropping a 4-1 decision to the St. Louis Bandits.
The North Division-leading Bandits (16-5-3) scored the game's first four goals - two each in the first and second periods - before the hosts got on the board. Zack Dorer (Holt, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) found the back of the net via a skate or two with a blast from the left point with 2:08 to play in the middle frame. Eric Rivard (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) and Kelin Ainsworth (Thunder Bay, ONT/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) drew assists.
"I don't think we played that bad, but we did make some costly mistakes," said TC head coach/GM Anthony Palumbo. "We left a man open in the slot, and our penalty kill is not reading and rotating fast enough. Plus, we didn't win a lot of the little battles. We did play well in spurts, but not for long enough stretches. And then there were times when we were totally outplayed. I think that's a sign of a young team, but its something we have to continue to address."
St. Louis outshot the Stars by a 23-18 count, and limited Traverse City to just two shots in the third period.
"We'd have lost 4-3 if they played without a goalie," Palumbo quipped.
Tyler Marble (Howell, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) made 19 saves, while his St. Louis counterpart Matt Green went 17-for-18.
Traverse City (10-8-1) will host the Bandits again on Saturday evening in the second installment of the three-game series dubbed âNorth Stars Never Forget', which honors past and present members of the U.S. Military. The Stars are sporting commemorative camouflage jerseys, which are being auctioned off throughout the weekend with proceeds benefiting the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Memorial Park and Assistance Fund. Members of the Operation American Soldier initiative are also on hand throughout the weekend, accepting items for packaging and delivery to servicemen and women currently deployed overseas. Saturday's game faces off at 7 p.m., while Sunday's series finale begins at 1 p.m.
