Steamers Open Playoffs

Saturday In Chicago

Postseason play begins for the Steamers when they visit the Chicago Storm Saturday, April 15 at UIC Pavilion. Saturday's contest kicks off the semifinal round of the MISL Championship Series. Game Two is slated for Saturday, April 22 at 7:05 p.m. at Savvis Center. If the teams split the two games, a "Golden Goal" sudden-death period will be played immediately following the conclusion of game two. The Steamers won their last game of the regular season when they defeated the Storm, 8-3, Saturday night (April 8) at Savvis Center. St. Louis finished in first place as the MISL Regular Season Champions with a 23-7 overall record and an amazing 14-1 record at home. Chicago finished in fourth place with a 13-17 record. The Steamers and Storm met six times during the regular season, with St. Louis winning five of those contests.

MISL Championship To Be Televised On ESPN2

The MISL and ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports, have announced that an agreement has been reached which places the League's 2006 MISL Championship Series Final live on ESPN2 for the second consecutive season. The exclusive agreement features the deciding game of the 2006 MISL Championship Series Finals on Sunday, April 30 at NOON (CDT). The format for the 2006 MISL Championship Series Finals is a two-game, series featuring the winners of the Championship Series Semifinals. In the event that the finalists split their two games, the 2006 MISL Champion will be determined by a "Golden Goal" sudden-death period, which will immediately follow the conclusion of Game Two. The MISL had initially announced a best-two-out-of three format for the Championship Series Finals. MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan said the League revised the format of the finals, "in order to enhance the visibility of our sport and maximize our national exposure."

Phillips Earns Second Goalkeeper Of The Month Award

Brett Phillips has been named the MISL's Goalkeeper of the Month for the month of April (the final month of regular season play). It is the second monthly honor for Phillips this season and the fourth time a member of the team has captured an MISL monthly award. Phillips finished the 2005-06 regular season with 20 wins including going 2-0 in April over two playoff-bound teams, Milwaukee and Chicago. For Phillips and the Steamers' defense, it was another month of much of what they've produced this season. Phillips played all 120 minutes in goal for St. Louis in April, and allowed only 3.5 goals per game, to lead all MISL goalkeepers in the month...... The Chile Is Hot In St. Louis:

Farias Wins Offensive Player Of The Week Award

When it comes to culinary delights, St. Louis is known for toasted ravioli and frozen custard, among other things. But on the menu of offensive firepower for the Steamers, the Chile has been a hot item lately. Steamers forward Carlos "Chile" Farias has been named MISL Offensive Player Of The Week for the period of April 3-9, 2006. Farias turned in another outstanding offensive performance on Saturday, contributing two goals and two assists in the Steamers' 8-3 victory over the Chicago Storm. The award is the second for Farias this season and marks the 19th time a member of the Steamers has garnered an MISL Player of the Week honor.
