Spurs Sign Dazzle's Matt Carroll, 2nd Gatorade Callup Today
March 8, 2004 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C., March 8 â Roanoke Dazzle guard Matt Carroll has signed with the San Antonio Spurs, making him the 13th NBDL-to-NBA "Gatorade Callup" this season. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Since the NBDL began competition in November 2001, 25 players have received 35 "Gatorade Callups" to play for NBA teams. Carroll is the second Dazzle player to be called up in the last five days and the second NBDL player called up today. The Atlanta Hawks signed Jason Collier of Fayetteville to a 10-day deal earlier today.
The 6-6, 212-pound shooting guard started the 2003-04 season in training camp with the New York Knicks. After being waived by the Knicks on October 27, Carroll then signed with the Portland Trail Blazers on November 11. He appeared in 13 games with the Blazers â averaging 1.0 point in 3.7 minutes â before being placed on waivers on January 7.
The 23-year-old Carroll then signed with the Roanoke Dazzle of the NBDL on February 4. He appeared in 11 games for the Dazzle, averaging 15.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 32.4 minutes.
Carroll will join the Spurs today in San Antonio and is expected to be in uniform for Tuesday night's Spurs-Grizzlies game in Memphis.
