13 and 24

March 8, 2004 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

LUCKY 13

With Gatorade callups of Roanoke guard Matt Carroll to San Antonio and Fayetteville forward Jason Collier to Atlanta on Monday, the league now has 13 NBDL-to-NBA callups with five weeks left in the 2003-04 season. The NBDL had 14 callups all of last year.

I'LL SEE YOUR 10 AND RAISE YOU ONE

Last season's 14 Gatorade callups were dispersed among 10 players. The 13 for this season are distributed among 11 players, with just Mikki Moore of Roanoke being tabbed more than once. Moore, the 2003 NBDL Defensive Player of the Year, has been called up this season by New Jersey and Utah twice. He recently signed with the Jazz for the remainder of the season.

DEVELOPING THE YOUNG ONES

The average age of this season's NBDL-to-NBA Gatorade callup is 24.8, which is right in line with the 2002-03 season when the average callup age was 24.3. Currently, four members of this year's callup class are playing their first season of professional basketball and six are 24 years of age or younger. Six were 24 or younger last season as well.

ASHEVILLE SIGNALING S.O.S

The Asheville Altitude has a special evening planned for Saturday to honor soldiers of the North Carolina National Guard's 210th and 211th Military Police Unit, as well as the 161st Medical Support Battalion for their diligence and hard work. "Support Our Soldiers" Night, or SOS, tips off at 7:15 p.m. against the Columbus Riverdragons. Federal, state, county and local dignitaries will issue proclamations and salute the troops during a special, extended half-time presentation. Local businesses are expected to donate goods and services to the honorees and their families.

POINT GUARD POINTS

A couple of NBDL point guards have pushed the scoring button of late. Charleston's Tierre Brown, who leads the league in scoring, is averaging 26.8 points over his last four games and NBDL February Player of the Month Marque Perry of Roanoke has averaged 22.6 over his last five games.

LITTLE HOME ADVANTAGE

Playing at home has not proven to be an advantage for most NBDL teams this season. After 112 games, the home teams are just 52-50. Only Charleston fares significantly better at home. The Lowgators are 13-4 at the North Charleston Coliseum this year. Conversely, Columbus is 6-11 at the Columbus Civic Center.

SURE SHOT LANG

Asheville post player Kris Lang has converted 24 of his last 32 field goal attempts, including 12-of-20 (60%) in three games last week.

BIAS BOARDING

Huntsville center Rodney Bias has averaged 11.3 rebounds over his last seven games. The second-year NBDL player from Livingston, Ala. has collected double-figure rebounds in 12 of the 24 games he has played in this season.
