Grand Rapids Drive News Release
Grand Rapids, Mich. - Feb. 9 - The Austin Spurs (22-9) won a third consecutive close contest against the Grand Rapids Drive (15-15) on Monday night, turning up the intensity in the second half on their way to a 107-97 win.
This is the Spurs' sixth win in a row, and their second consecutive road-win. The Drive fall to .500 for the first time since December 20.
All of the Spurs' top scorers showed up in the contest. Kyle Anderson, a 2014 NBA Draft first-rounder and assignee from San Antonio, piled up 26 points and six rebounds to lead the visiting team.
The Spurs' top two non-assignee scorers, Bryce Cotton and Orlando Johnson, had 22 and 21 points, respectively.
The two teams were almost completely even early, as the Drive hit halftime with a 51-50 lead. The first half featured 18 lead changes and eight ties, and neither team was able to build a lead larger than four points.
In the second half, the Spurs were able to flex their Southwestern Division-leading muscles. They put five points on Grand Rapids in the third quarter and then finished the job by limiting the Drive to just 19 points in the fourth quarter and securing the win.
In doing so, they held their opponent to under 100 points for the seventh time this season, and the second game in a row.
Adonis Thomas led the Drive with 21 points and Brandon Fields contributed 17 points and six assists. Uncharacteristically, the Drive were out-rebounded, 51 to 43.
Both teams have a bit of a break before their next contest. The Spurs will travel and play the Idaho Stampede on Wednesday, January 18 and the Drive host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on the 19th.
