
Springfield Sliders Hire UIS's Joel Bonnett as Assistant Coach

Sliders manager Pete Romero announced today that Joel Bonnett, who is currently the pitching coach at the University of Illinois at Springfield, will join the Sliders staff this summer as an assistant coach.
Bonnett is no stranger to the Prospect League having played in the Eastern Division with the Richmond RiverRats while attending North Park University in Chicago. At North Park Bonnett was part of the University's first NCAA Regional appearance in 20 years.
Bonnett, 23, has roots in Springfield having graduated from Sacred Heart Griffin High School. This season while serving as pitching coach for the University of Illinois at Springfield Joel saw his staff break many single season pitching records such as strikeouts in a season, fewest walks and lowest team ERA. The team also broke their record for wins in a single season.
Joel earned a degree in Economics while at North Park University and is currently working on his Master's degree in Public Administration at UIS.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League with teams in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Their 60 game schedule begins in late May and runs into August. All Sliders home games are played at Robin Roberts Stadium located at 1415 N Grand Ave E in Springfield, IL.
