
Springfield Sliders Announce Danny Cox as 2011 Field Manager

The Springfield Sliders are pleased to announce the selection of former Cardinal great and World Series Champion Danny Cox as Field Manager for the 2011 season. A press conference to formally announce the move has been scheduled for Thursday, April 14 at 2pm. Danny Cox will attend the press conference, held at the Stadium Club in the Sliders offices located at 1415 N. Grand Avenue.
Cox previously served as pitching coach of the Sliders in 2009 under Manager Jack Clark. Cox spent 11 seasons as a major-league pitcher and was with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1983 to 1988. He helped them win two National League championships and pitched in the 1985 and 1987 World Series. Cox's best season was in 1985, when he turned in an 18-9 record and 2.88 ERA to help the Cards reach the World Series. He later played with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays who won the World Series in 1993.
