
Sports win first half championship

Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports defeated Pensacola 3-2 Friday night at Fair Grounds Field to win the first half Central League Eastern Division Championship. The Sports will be in the CBL Playoffs come late August marking the first time since 1999 (Captains), that a Shreveport teams will be in the post season playoffs.
The Sports won it an unusual way. Trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the ninth, Keto Anderson led off with an infield hit. Kevin Webster's sacrifice bunt move Anderson to second. Jose Gonzalez walked and then Vernon Spearman walked to load the bases. Tony Schifano's fly ball to center field scored Anderson with the tying run as Gonzalez moved to third. With Derek Patterson at the plate, a wild pitch by Pensacola's Jimmy Gregg allowed Gonzalez to score the winning run.
Josh Gold (6-2) went the distance to pick up the victory while Gregg (3-1) took the loss for Pensacola.
Shreveport and Pensacola will close out the first half of the season Saturday night at Fair Grounds Field. Game time 7:05.
