Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports looking for help out of the bullpen have signed former UL-Monroe pitcher Dennis Bair to a contract. Bair, a 28-year old right-hander is expected to join the team and be available for the Wednesday night game at Fair Grounds Field against Ft. Worth.
Bair was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the eighth round of the 1995 draft and pitched at Williamsport in the NY-Penn League and at Rockford in the Midwest League in '95. In 1996, Bair pitched at Daytona in the Class A Florida State League, posting a record of 9-8 with a 3.67 ERA.
Injuries put Bair on the disabled list in 1997 and '98. Since 1999, the 6 foot 5 Bair has pitched in Independent Leagues at Allentown, PA; Canton, Ohio; Schaumburg, Illinois and last year at Newark, NJ in the Atlantic League. Last season Bair had a record of 4-6 with a 4.63 ERA.
"We are looking for some help out of the bullpen and we think that Bair may be the answer," said Sports Manager Terry Bevington. "We will start him out on an inning by inning situation and hopefully make him our closer."
The Sports have been one player short of the 22-man roster since releasing Levi Ferguson earlier this week.
