Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

The Shreveport Sports pounded out a season high 19 hits to defeat Coastal Bend 17-5 in the final game of the three-game series before 2,806 at Fair Grounds Field Thursday.

The Sports took a 2-0 lead in the third inning only to have the Aviators score three runs in the top of the fourth. However, Shreveport sent ten batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored six runs and never looked back. Dusty Maddox had a two-run single in the fourth to break the 3-3 tie.

The Sports always had an answer for any rally Coastal Bend had throughout the game as Shreveport scored two in the fifth, two more in the sixth and finished off the contest with four in the eighth. Bryan Cooksey hit his first professional home run, a two-run home run in the sixth. It was the first home run hit by a Sports player at Fair Grounds Field this season.

Justin Humphries led the 19-hit attack for Shreveport with four hits and six RBI's. Humphries now has 12 RBI's this week.

Shreveport will now open up a three-game series at Fort Worth Friday at 7:05 with the game to be broadcast on AM 1130, KWKH. The Sports will return to Fair Grounds Field Monday to start a series with El Paso.
