Sporting KC II Ends Road Swing Saturday at Indy Eleven

May 20, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release

Sporting Kansas City II (0-2-2, 2 points) will play for their second road result in four days when they visit Michael A. Carroll Stadium to face Central Division counterparts Indy Eleven (1-1-0, 3 points) on Saturday night. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT and the match will stream live on ESPN Plus.

Under the guidance of head coach Paulo Nagamura, Sporting KC II claimed a well-deserved point in a 1-1 draw at LA Galaxy II on Wednesday. The visitors defended resolutely and were unfortunate not to have seen Dominik Resetar's 60th-minute opener stand as the game-winner, as Galaxy II drew level through Jorge Hernandez's deflected effort in the 73rd minute.

Like Sporting KC II, Indy Eleven are led by a fourth-year head coach in Martin Rennie. The Scotland native pushed Indy to the playoffs in 2018 and 2019, including a run to the Eastern Conference Final in 2019, but the club fell short of the postseason in 2020 after losing five of their final seven matches.

SKC II and Indy Eleven met four times at Lucas Oil Stadium during the shortened 2020 campaign. SKC II prevailed 1-0 on Aug. 1-receiving a second-half winner from Danny Barbir-and prevailed again by a 2-1 scoreline on Sept. 30 with a first-half Wilson Harris strike and a dramatic 95th-minute winner from Bailey Sparks (pictured above). Indy secured 2-1 victories over SKC II on July 18 and Sept. 9.

Indy Eleven opened their 2021 campaign with a 1-0 win at Birmingham Legion FC on May 1 as Venezuelan forward Manuel Arteaga scored on his club debut. The club suffered a 2-0 home loss to Central Division leaders FC Tulsa one week later. On the backline, Indy are spearheaded by 2020 USL Championship All-League second team selection Neveal Hackshaw, who has earned 14 caps for Trinidad and Tobago at the senior international level.
