Spokane Shock News Release

SPOKANE, WA (November 25th, 2013) ""Tuesday, November 26th from 10:30 AM-1:30 PM Spokane Shock Players, Coach Andy Olson along with the Shock Front Office Staff will be volunteering at Tom's Turkey Tuesday event at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, WA.

ABOUT KREM Care's "TOM'S TURKEY DRIVE"

KREM is excited to renew our commitment to fighting hunger this holiday season by hosting our Annual Tom's Turkey Drive, the largest turkey drive in the Inland Northwest, where we feed approximately 11,000 families.

A holiday tradition now, KREM 2's Tom Sherry, Rosauers, Numerica Credit Union, Rockwood Health Systems, Franz Bakery and Itron along with 2nd Harvest and the Salvation Army work together to provide holiday meals to area families.

We are so excited about this year's event and hope you can participate. It's as easy as visiting any area Rosauers store or clicking to donate on-line! With your help last year, Tom's Turkey Drive raised approximately $70,000 and provided 11,000 holiday meals! The majority of the meals are distributed at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena through 2nd Harvest and the Salvation Army. That's where they are then given to families here in the Inland Northwest. If there are turkeys and meals left over after Thanksgiving, they are well used during Christmas. After all holiday needs are met, the food and money goes to support 2nd Harvest throughout the year.

MISSION: The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

GOAL: The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable natural resources - our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

ACTIVITIES: The principal Toys for Tots activities which take place each year are the collection and distribution of toys in the communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located and in communities without a Reserve Unit that has a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots campaign. Local Toys for Tots Campaign Coordinators conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other purely voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toy and monetary donations.

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SPOKANE "FOSTER SANTA BREAKFAST"

ABOUT JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SPOKANE "FOSTER SANTA BREAKFAST"

Every December, over 400 foster children and their foster families attend the Junior League of Spokane's signature event, Foster Santa Breakfast. Each year, Northern Quest Casino generously donates breakfast and a ballroom that gets transformed into a winter wonderland filled with exquisite trees decorated with gifts, the sounds of excited children and the smells of a delicious breakfast. For some of the foster children, it may be the first time they have received a new toy, the first time they have been to a holiday party, the first time they have had the chance to visit with Santa Claus or the first time they have been able to choose a gift to give.
