SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Shock today announces our broadcast personnel for our 2021 season. We are very happy to welcome this dynamic duo back to the Shock organization and looking forward to what they will bring from our field to your TV's at home!
Mike Peterson returns to the broadcast booth as the Spokane Shock's TV Analyst. Mike began broadcasting Shock games beginning with their inaugural AF2 debut in 2006. He has covered the Spokane Shock/Spokane Empire games every season they have competed in AF2, AFL and IFL football. This will be Mike's 13th season with the franchise. In addition to AFL/IFL football, Mike also calls games for college football, college basketball, college baseball and GSL football.
He has called 7 NAIA Baseball World Series including 6 National Championship games.
Mike was an All-GSL multi-sport athlete at University HS in football, basketball and baseball.
He earned All State football honors as a WR. Mike continued his football career in college at WSU. In his senior season with the Cougars he led the team in Receptions, Receiving Yards and Receiving TD's. He is best known for his second half touchdown reception in the 1982 Apple Cup that helped spark a 24-21 WSU win over the 5th ranked UW Huskies.
Mike also brings a wealth of rules experience to the booth. He is a former Division 1 men's basketball referee of 28 years. He officiated games in the PAC-12, WCC, Big Sky and Big West conferences. He made regular playoff appearances in the NCAA, NIT, CBI and Conference post season tournaments. Mike was also the designated NCAA rules clinician for Gonzaga University men's basketball.
Mike will be joined on the broadcast team with veteran Play-By-Play announcer Larry Weir.
Larry is a two-time State of Washington Broadcaster of the year recipient as chosen by the National Sports Media Association. He just finished his 30th year as the radio voice of the EWU
Eagles for football and has called men's basketball for 28 years. Larry has called nearly 1,100 games in his career for the Eagles.
Larry was the radio broadcaster for the Shock from 2006-2009, in 2014-2015 and the Spokane Empire 2016-2017. He was teamed with Mike as the TV broadcaster for the Shock's 2011 season. In that season at Joe Albi stadium, Larry and Mike covered the first-ever AFL regular season outdoor game in front of a Spokane Shock record crowd of 16,233.
Larry is also the voice of GSL football and basketball radio broadcasts for the past several seasons. He is also on the TV broadcast team for the Avista NAIA Baseball World Series. He has also served as the voice of Northwest League baseball for five seasons covering the Spokane Indians and Yakima Bears.
