Spitters Clutch up Late in Extra-Inning Pitcher's Duel

Green Bay, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters trailed until the seventh inning, but they forced extras and won game one of the series 3-1 against the Green Bay Rockers.

The pitching was excellent for both sides. Avery Goldensoph shattered his previous season-high with a seven-inning masterpiece. His last start was four innings against Kokomo, while every appearance prior was no more than two. He struck out three batters and allowed just one run on five hits.

The Rockers took the lead in the second while the Pit Spitter bats were quiet. They were getting two hit up until the top of the eighth inning. Marshall Toole singled and stole second to get into scoring position. With two outs, Brennen Dorighi hit a towering fly ball to right field that went off the high wall for a game-tying double.

Anthony Ramirez came in to pitch the bottom of the inning with two outs and the go-ahead run at second. He struck out the batter on three pitches. He followed that up by striking out the side in the ninth and sending the game to extras.

In the 10th inning, Alec Atkinson doubled to center field to score the first run. Three batters later, Brennen Dorighi hit a sacrifice fly to score Atkinson and make it 3-1. In the bottom half, Ramirez struck out the Rockers best hitter to strand the bases loaded and secure the win. Ramirez struck out six of the nine batters he faced.
