
Chinooks Defeat Mallards in Extra Innings

Madison, Wis. - The Chinooks in a trip to Madison, took a 4-2 win against the Mallards in extra innings.
Lakeshore's Andy Nelson put the Mallards (6-19) in a two-run deficit hitting his second home run of the game in the top of the eleventh inning to give the Chinooks (13-11) a 4-2 lead.
The Chinooks opened up the scoring from the jump in the top of the first inning as they took a 1-0 lead from a Matthias Haas single that snuck past the left infield to score Matthew DePrey.
Not letting the Chinooks get too hot, was the Mallards answering right back after a Chad McCann singled to right field tying the game at one a piece.
Xander Rojahn (1-0, 3.46 ERA) got the start on the mound for the Chinooks. Rojahn pitched five innings allowing one run on three hits and five strikeouts.
Nelson hit his first home run of the game in the top of the fourth inning to give the Chinooks a 2-1 lead over the Mallards.
The Mallards tied it up, 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth after Scott Shaw hit a triple to left center field and he was brought in to score on a sacrifice fly to left field hit by Tommy Carpenter.
Calvin Bickerstaff (3-3, 3.30 ERA) came in the bottom of the ninth inning pitching 2.1 innings. Bickerstaff earned the win in his outing, allowing one run on two hits.
In the first extra inning, the Chinooks found base runners in scoring position, but the Mallards held them from moving any further. The Chinooks then held the Mallards from walking it off as their place runner moved 90 feet from scoring.
The Chinooks took a 4-2 lead in the top of the eleventh inning when Nelson led off the inning sending one flying over the left center field fence. Nelson, alongside himself, brought in the place runner home in Joey Spence.
The Mallards came up short in the final inning, despite loading the bases. The Chinooks retired the Mallards, ending the inning in a 6-3 double play.
Nate Snead, Luke Llewellyn and Jacob Dillion also made appearances on the mound for the Chinooks. Llewellyn in his one inning pitched struck out three out of the four batters he faced.
The Chinooks will be back in Madison as they take on the Mallards in game two on Wednesday. First pitch at Warner Park is at 6:35 p.m.
