Loggers Stung by Willmar, 14-4

LA CROSSE, WI - The La Crosse Loggers fell in a matchup against the red-hot Willmar Stingers last night, who extended their winning streak to 12 games.

The Stingers' bats overpowered Loggers' pitching, totaling 13 hits on the night. Joey Walls (Long Beach State), Graysen Tarlow (Cal State-Northridge), and Brett Bateman (Minnesota) lead the way with 2 hits each. Will Hodo also contributed by belting a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning, extending an already significant lead.

The losing pitcher was Alijiah Acevedo (Elgin CC), who made his first start of the summer. The only Loggers' pitcher to toss scoreless innings was Dylan Lapic (UT-Martin), who hasn't allowed a run in his last four appearances.

Andrew Baumgart (North Dakota State) started for the Stingers, pitching well enough to keep his team in the ball game. The Willmar, MN native tossed 5.1 innings while allowing 4 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 strikeouts. Nolan Kemp appeared out of the bullpen, tossing 3.2 dominant innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits and 7 strikeouts, closing out the contest.

Offensively for the Lumberman, Blaise Priester (Meridian CC) and Xavier Casserilla (Wichita State) both had strong performances. Priester went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and Casserilla hit his 5th long ball of the season. Jordan Donahue (Hawaii) also chipped in by going 1-for-2 with 3 walks and 2 stolen bases.

Both teams will battle once again Wednesday at 6:35pm CT in La Crosse. Before then, the La Crosse Loggers are hosting the Major League Dream Showcase today at Copeland Park. The showcase consists of a combine and double-header attended by major league scouts, played by 100 of the best NWL prospects. Fans can watch live on ESPN 3.
