Spitfires Shut Out Guelph; Win 3-0

The Spitfires were looking to rebound after a 4-1 loss last night in Barrie. They headed down to the Royal City of Guelph for a matchup with the red hot Storm and came out victorious after a dominant defensive performance.

The Storm came into this game with a 15-8-0-1 record while the Spitfires had a 6-18-1-0 record.

In the first period, the Spitfires would score first off a Guelph turnover. The puck bounced to Zhugin and he passed it to Davis who slipped the puck to Peer in front of the net and went to the backhand and roofed his 14th of the season. The Spitfires would kill off two penalties in the period, one for delay of game (puck over the glass) and one for slashing. The Spitfires would lead 1-0 after twenty minutes but trail 12-10 in shots.

In the second frame, the Spitfires continued their puck possession and kept on the pressure. Late in the frame, the Spitfires were rewarded with the constant pressure with a powerplay. On the ensuing powerplay, the Spitfires would strike. Zhugin would score his 12th of the season off the draw to give the Spitfires a 2-0 lead heading into the third. The shots were 20-19 in favour of the Storm after 2 periods.

In the third period, the Spitfires would shut it down. Peer would add a empty netter in the final minute of play! They played a fantastic 60 minutes and came away with a vital 2 points. Michelone backstopped a 3-0 win with 30 saves!

The Spitfires are back in action as they have a four-game home stand coming up over the next two weeks. They start on Thursday when the Barrie Colts come to town for their only visit of the season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm. On Saturday the Oshawa Generals visit the WFCU Centre for a 7:05pm game followed by another game on Sunday versus Flint.
