Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires and Attack had a barn burner in Owen Sound on Saturday evening. Both teams traded goals all night before a questionable call in overtime sent the Attack to the powerplay who capitalized and took the extra point.
In the first period, the deadlock took 17 minutes to break as both teams felt each other out. The Attack scored to take a 1-0 lead and a 17-9 shot advantage through the first period.
In the second period, the Spitfires responded quickly. Just 26 seconds in Christopoulos scored his 4th of the season from Smith and Peer to tie the game at 1. The Attack would retake the lead 9 minutes later. The lead didn't last long as the Christopoulos would score just over a minute later to tie the game at 2 with his 2nd of the night. The Attack responded quickly, just 53 seconds later they scored to take the lead. Three minutes later, overage forward Maggio scored on the backhand to tie the game at 3, Maillet and Abraham had assists on the goal. We were all tied after 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, the Attack would retake the lead again halfway through the period to make it 4-3. Just four and a half minutes later, Maggio would score his 2nd of the night on a sweet feed from DeAngelis to tie the game at 4. After 60 minutes we were locked at 4 and headed to OT.
In the overtime period, an Attack player ran into Renwick and fell down which sent the Spitfires to the PK. The Attack would score on the powerplay and take the win in OT.
The Spitfires are still undefeated in regulation as they fell to 4-0-2-0 and the Attack improved to 4-3-0-0.
The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday Oct 20th when the Saginaw Spirit make their way to the WFCU Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
