Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires were oh so close to winning but a hot netminder saved the day for the Sting.

In the first period, the Spitfires got an early powerplay and capitalized. They score jus over two minutes into the game on a Perrott point shot. Abraham and Renwick had assists on the goal. That was the lone goal of the period, the Spitfires had a 9-4 lead in shots.

In the second period, the Sting came alive and fought back. Just under 14 minutes into the period Sarnia scored on the powerplay and just 42 seconds later they scored again to take a 2-1 lead. The Spitfires were down on the scoreboard but led in shots 21-13.

In the third period, the Spitfires were down and needing a goal. However, a few penalties made it tough. While the Spitfires were on the PK, Ribau got the puck up to Johnston at the far blue line and he walked over the blue line and saucer passed to Cuylle who tucked it in for a big game tying goal. 60 minutes solved nothing so we were off to overtime.

In the OT frame, the Spitfires turned the puck over at the Sarnia blue line and they quickly got the puck up ahead for a 2 on 1 break and went in to score and win 3-2.

The series now stands 3-2 for Windsor. The next game is tomorrow Sunday May 1st, puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
