Spirit Outshoot Peterborough In 3-5 Loss

(Peterborough, ON) The Saginaw Spirit outshot the Peterborough Petes at the Peterborough Memorial Centre Thursday night. The contest marked the start of a four game road trip for the Spirit, who fought the Petes to a 3-5 regulation loss. Winger Jordan Szwarz led the way for the Spirit with a goal and an assist. Center Ivan Telegin also added a shorthanded goal in the effort. The game moves the team's record to 7-4-1-0 for the season.

The Petes opened scoring midway through the first period with a goal from left winger David Quesnele at 12:52. He was assisted on the score by fellow winger Jack Walchessen and center Joey West. The Spirit answered quickly at 15:43 with a shorthanded tally by rookie center Ivan Telegin, assisted by winger Jordan Skellett and defenseman Nick Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES). Peterborough reclaimed the lead less than a minute later, at 16:21, on a deflection by winger Matt Puempel. He was assisted on the powerplay goal by defenseman Chris Buonomo and center Ryan Spooner. Quesnele added the last goal of the period at 18:02 and was assisted by center Joey West and winger Pat Daley. The first period ended with the score 1-3.

The second period began with an early goal by Peterborough, as Puempel scored his second goal of the game at 0:54. Assists on the play came from Daley and Spooner.The Spirit rallied with a goal at 6:08, scored by winger Jordan Szwarz (NHL PHEONIX COYOTES) and assisted by defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) and rookie winger Anthony Camara. A minute later, Spirit center Tyler Murovich found the back of the net to cut the Petes' lead to one. Winger Jordan Szwarz and blueliner Joe Underwood were credited with assists on the goal at 7:07. Peterborough scored less than a minute later with a goal at 7:53 by defenseman Adrian Robertson; assisted by Quesnele and goaltender Jason Missiaen (NHL MONTREAL CANADIENS). The score stood at 3-5 after two periods.

Despite a volley of shots in the third by the Spirit, neither team managed to find the net, ending with a final score of 3- 5.

Spirit goaltender Edward Pasquale (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) posted 24 saves, while Peterborough netminder Jason Missiaen finished with 45 saves on 48 shots.

The Spirit will travel to Kingston for the second of three consecutive games against the East Division on Friday, October 23 for a 7:30 PM match-up with the Frontenacs, and will take on the 67's in Ottawa on Sunday, October 26 at 2:00 PM. The Spirit will return home Saturday, October 31 to battle the Windsor Spitfires. The puck drops at 7:11 PM.
