
Spirit Move into Seventh Seed with Fourth Straight Win; Beat Frontenacs 3-1

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Kingston Frontenacs 3-1 Wednesday night. The victory marked Saginaw's fourth straight win and moved the team into 7th place in the OHL Western Conference, passing the Sarnia Sting and closing in on the 6th seed Guelph Storm. Saginaw has 66 points and a record of 30-23-4-2. Jack Combs, Joe Pleckaitis, and Nick Crawford tallied the Spirit goals in the effort.
The Spirit started off the game with power play goal scored by winger Jack Combs at the 7:26 mark. Wingers Jordan Szwarz and Tomas Zaborsky (NYR) were both credited with the assists. Saginaw's efforts continued in the second period as Spirit winger Joe Pleckaitis received a pass from defenseman Adam Comrie and scored at 1:18, moving the score to 2-0. Kingston winger Nathan Moon answered back at 4:04 in the period with a power play goal assisted by winger Jesse Brown and defenseman Justin Wallingford. The second period ended with Saginaw ahead 2-1.
Spirit defenseman Nick Crawford fired one in from the blue line during the third period, scoring an unassisted power play goal at 2:45. The goal moved the score to 3-1, with Saginaw beating the Frontenacs for the second of their two game season series.
Spirit goalie Ryan Daniels (OTT) finished the game with 17 saves. Kingston's John Murray had 27 saves.

The Spirit will return to TheDow Event Center on Friday, March 29th, with a 7:11 PM game against the Belleville Bulls. It's a Leap Day Celebration featuring a leap frog contest!
The Spirit will be back on Saturday, March 1st at 7:11 PM to host the Windsor Spitfires. Former Detroit Red Wings defensemen and CHL alumnus Jiri Fischer will be skating in 'Shocks and Saves' charity game prior to the Spirit game. It will be played at 5:00 PM with a special $10 ticket available for the charity game that also includes admission to the following Saginaw Spirit home game. The occasion marks the first time that Fischer will participate in a hockey game since November 21st, 2005 when he collapsed on the Red Wings bench due to heart complications.
The 'Shocks and Saves' charity game was organized by the Michigan CardioVascular Institute (MCVI) Foundation and presented by Biotronik 'Excellence for Life', Covenant HealthCare, MidMichigan Medical Center - Midland, The Michigan CardioVascular Institute (MCVI) and Mobile Medical Response (MMR).
The game will raise funds for a program sponsored by Fischer's Healthy Hope Foundation to put Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) in mid-Michigan schools and ice rinks. In light of the recent passing of Windsor Spitfires captain Mickey Renaud, a portion of the funds raised will also be donated to the Windsor Spitfires Foundation in honor of Renaud. The game will feature several celebrities in addition to Fischer, including Saginaw Spirit General Manager and former NHL Vezina winning goaltender Don Edwards and Windsor Spitfires General Manager and former NHL winger Warren Rychel!
