State College Spikes News Release

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The State College Spikes are just days away from returning to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for Opening Night, presented by PSECU and Newsradio 1390 WRSC. The 2016 home state opens up this Saturday, June 18 when the Spikes face the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) at 7:05 p.m.

The Spikes will start the summer by honoring a potential championship squad from our area as the Bellefonte Area High School baseball team will be on hand for Opening Night. The Red Raiders will throw out the ceremonial first pitch as a team to celebrate their run to the PIAA Class AAA state baseball championship game, with players throwing to their fathers and other impactful people in their lives to celebrate Father's Day weekend.

Bellefonte will face Susquehanna Township on Thursday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the state title. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The fever pitch of the PIAA Baseball Championships will also carry over, as any fan presenting a ticket stub from Thursday's title games at the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office will receive $2 off any ticket for any Spikes home game in June, presented by Lion Country Kia.

Lion Country Kia will also give fans the chance to be a big winner at each Sunday home game this season, as one "LuCKy" fan will get the chance to win free gas for a year by tossing a ball into the sunroof of a KIA car from 100 feet away.

Gates open to the general public on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., and the first 2,500 fans of all ages will also receive a Spikes Schedule Magnet Giveaway, presented by PSECU. After the game, the skies over Happy Valley will light up as PSECU presents the first of 12 fantastic FIREWORKS shows this season.

Plus, Opening Night will be a Scratch n' Win Saturday, presented by P.J. Harrigan's, with every fan going home a winner as each fan receives a scratch-off card with a great prize or discount on it. The night concludes with the opportunity for all kids 12 and under to run the bases thanks to Clinical Outcomes Group, Inc.

Saturday's home opener will also be carried live on WHVL-TV, the first of three live TV broadcasts of Spikes home games this season.

The fun doesn't stop there, as Opening Night begins a four-game homestand at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Sunday, the Spikes take on the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Rays) at 6:05 p.m. Fans can bring Dad to the ballpark and have the chance to make it the best Father's Day ever with the Ultimate Father/Child Prize Package Giveaway, presented by First National Bank.

Dads and kids can enter for the chance to win this one-of-a-kind bonanza at the Collegiate Pride Customer Service Center during the evening, and five pairs of fathers and children will be selected as finalists. Those five dads and five kids will then compete in a three-legged race on the field, with the two fastest father/child teams then facing off in the #1 Dad Contest to determine the ultimate winners.

Great seats are still available for Opening Night, but fans purchasing tickets and redeeming McDonald's Flex Book vouchers are encouraged to reserve seats now so as not to miss any of the action.
