June 15, 2016 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Baseball is officially back in Brooklyn! The 2016 season will kick off on Friday June 17, 2016 against our cross- bridge rival the Staten Island Yankees starting at 7:00 p.m., and the Cyclones are ready to play ball.
Five Cyclone veterans will be returning on the 2016 roster including RHPs Nicco Blank and Raul Jacobson, outfielders Hengelbert Rojas and Enmanuel Zabala, and catcher Brandon Brosher. Brosher, you may remember, exploded on the scene last July to smash a grand slam and a three-run double for a franchise-record seven RBIs to lead the Cyclones passed the Williamsport Crosscutter, 9-2 on July 2nd. Blank also led from the mound last season dishing out a 2.40 ERA and allowing only 16 runs in 41.5 innings pitched.
"He's gonna be a big guy for me for not only the draft guys, but for the others coming here for their first time or second year in the organization to look up to," said pitching coach Billy Bryk Jr.,. " He's one guy that I've had to tell to do less. And he is going to be a vital part of our staff on showing these guys how to carry themselves on and off the field."
New 2016 MLB Draft additions that we are proud to welcome to Brooklyn will include Arizona State shortstop Colby Woodmansee (5th round), Franklin Pierce Univ. third baseman Jay Jabs (17th Round), Lewis & Clark State outfielder Jacob Zanon (15th Round), Xavier University catcher Dan Rizzie (13th round), and RHPs Univ. of San Diego's Gary Cornish (19th round) and Cumberland County College's Joseph Zanghi.
Starting from the mound for opening day will be RHP and California native Gabriel Llanes. RHP Harol Gonzalez will make the start Saturday night at Staten Island.
