SPHL names director of officials for 2005-06
Published on August 25, 2005 under SPHL (SPHL) News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Jim Combs will serve as Director of Officials during the 2005-06 Season. In addition to scheduling and supervising all Referees and Linesmen for league games, Combs will also be responsible for reviewing game tapes and assessing all fines and suspensions for the SPHL this year.
Having served in the same position during the Inaugural Season of the SPHL, Jim Combs had the following comment, "I am looking forward to working with the SPHL for a second straight year. It is great to be a part of this league and I am excited about my expanded role this season."
In other news, the Board has withdrawn its offer to hire a Commissioner and will operate the season with the duties of commissioner being distributed as follows: Keith Jeffries, SPHL Chairman of the Board, will oversee the business operations of the league office and Bill Coffey will serve as Director of Hockey Operations.
Keith had the following comment, "The Boards decision to take its time and locate the right candidate for the position of Commissioner is, in my opinion, a good decision. With Jim Combs handling all fines and suspensions, we eliminate any concern that a team owner, such as me, would be biased in making these difficult decisions."
The SPHL begins the 2005-06 season on Friday, October 21st when the defending SPHL Champion Columbus Cottonmouths host the Huntsville Havoc, while the Pee Dee Cyclones play their inaugural SPHL game at Fayetteville against the Fire Antz and the Knoxville Ice Bears host the Florida Seals. Training camp begins for all team on October 14, 2005.
