SPHL Announces First Team Selections

HUNTERSVILLE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League on Thursday announced its 2015-2016 All-SPHL First Team as selected in a vote of league coaches, general managers and media representatives.

F - Corey Banfield, Pensacola Ice Flyers

F - Adam Pawlick, Pensacola Ice Flyers

F - Kyle Gibbons, Fayetteville FireAntz

D - Brandon Greenside, Peoria Rivermen

D - Jason Price, Knoxville Ice Bears

G - Garrett Bartus, Macon Mayhem

Pensacola's Corey Banfield led all SPHL players in points (68), goals (32) and game-winning goals (seven-tied), while his 36 assists and three shorthanded goals were both tied for second-best. Banfield was also fourth in the league with a +24 rating.

Pensacola's Adam Pawlick tied for first among all players with seven game-winning goals and was second with 256 shots on goal. Pawlick also tied for second with 36 assists and seven power-play goals, was fourth in points (62) and fifth in goals with 26.

Fayetteville's Kyle Gibbons finished second in the SPHL with 31 goals, was third with a +26 rating and fifth with 61 points. Gibbons also had a 10-game point streak this season, tied for second-longest in the SPHL.

Peoria's Brandon Greenside led all players with a +31 rating and topped defensemen in points (37), assists (31), power play assists (12-tied), shorthanded assists (two-tied) and shots on goal (135). Greenside was also third among rearguards with three power play goals.

Knoxville's Jason Price finished second among defensemen with 26 assists, while his 30 points was third-best. On November 5, 2015, Price broke the SPHL record for career games, playing in his 405th regular season contest as the Ice Bears defeated Pensacola 6-2.

Macon's Garrett Bartus led all goaltenders in wins (22), save percentage (.929), shutouts (three-tied), minutes (2709:01) and saves (1421) as he led the Mayhem to a playoff berth in their inaugural season. Bartus' 2.39 goals against average was also tied for fourth-best among netminders, while his 45 appearances is tied for fourth-most in a season in SPHL history.

The SPHL will announce its Defenseman of the Year on Friday.
