Speed Win Third Straight; Put Erie in Deep-Freeze

March 27, 2007 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Carolina Speed News Release

Powered by a stingy defense and quarterback Aaron Leak's four touchdown passes, the Carolina Speed won their third consecutive game 40-29 over the Erie Freeze Saturday night at the Cabarrus Arena. The Speed improved to 4-2 with the victory and trail Southern division leader Mississippi by two games and Tallahassee and Lakeland by one game as the season nears the midway point.

Erie dropped to 1-5 with the loss.

Leak, the former North Carolina/Troy ST signal caller with previous indoor experience, saw his first action of the year and delivered a strong performance...completing 16-35 for 199 yards and four scores. Kick Bruce Rienecker aided the Speed cause with a field goal and several big UNO's.

Meanwhile, the Carolina defense continued a trend of strong recent performances, holding their third opponent in a row under 35 points (Montgomery- 16, Huntington-34, and Erie-29), a rarity in the high-scoring world of indoor football. Jamel Jackson had an interception for the Carolina "Crush", his Fifth of the season, and former Wake Forest product Daryl Shaw continued to impress with his aggressive play. The Carolina Defense "Crush" is becoming one of the hardest hitting units in the league with former NFL players Tony George and Emodi Ikechukwu.

Head Coach Michael Mink's troops now hit the road to face winless Baltimore (0-3) this Saturday night, March 31st. The game will be available live on www.aifatv.com

The Speed return home to face division leader and unbeaten Mississippi (7-0) on next Saturday April 7th at the Cabarrus Arena 7:05 pm. Good seats remain available for that game, as well as the rest of the Speed's home dates, by calling the Speed ticket office at (704) 920-3976.
