Special Announcement & Message from Coach Bryan
July 17, 2004 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Sacramento Capitals News Release
Come join the crowd!!!
We are pumped and so appreciative. Our WTT Squad is doing great with a 6-1 record and wins over Springfield, St. Louis â twice, Philly, Newport Beach and Hartford,! And hey, Hartford sported a team that included high ranking young Americans Mardy Fish and Meghann Shaughnessy!
Our players Andre Agassi, Mark Knowles, Dmitry Tursunov, Nicole Vaidisova, and Anastassia Rodionova have played so well for us and they have really pulled together as a team.
Andre Agassi, the marquee marksman for the Caps and WTT Amabassador, showed no mercy in his 5-2 victory in singles and 5-0 win in doubles with Mark Knowles against the St. Louis Aces. Our Roseville-based Russian, Dmitry Tursunov, performed tough as nails against Top 20 player and Hartford FoxForce stalwart Mardy Fish. And despite our first and only loss against the Newport Beach Breakers last week, our newcomer Nicole Vaidisova creamed newly crowned Wimbledon champion, Maria Sharapova, 5-3! We have a deep reservoir of talent on this Caps team!
And what wonderful crowds and support we have had! Thanks to all our amazingly steadfast fans and the fact that so many Sac Town and Nor Cal Pros have been in attendance with their adults and juniors, the stands have been packed. And it's just been great for tennis, to our way of thinking.
Upcoming matches include:
- Sunday, July 18 vs. Kansas City;
- Monday, July 19 vs. Newport Beach with the #1 Doubles Team in the World and our Olympic and Davis Cup Players Mike & Bob Bryan;
- our season finale, Sunday, July 25 vs. New York with the ageless legend, Martina Navratilova.
Thanks again and we'll look forward to seeing you out for our last three matches over the next two weeks.
Warm regards,
Coach Wayne Bryan
