Spartans Bonds Named Offensive Player Of The Week

April 29, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - La Crosse Spartans News Release

La Crosse, WI: In release made today, the league office of the Indoor Football League announced that La Crosse Spartans Runningback Marl Bonds was selected as the Week Nine Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the team's last minute loss to the West Michigan Thunderhawks.

Bonds becomes the first member of the Spartans to earn weekly accolades for his on the field performance. The Thunderhawks had no answer for him as he slashed and dashed his way to 96 yards via the ground on just 15 carries, and found the endzone a remarkable five times. The five rushing touchdowns in a single game is the most by any player in the IFL this season. Unfortunatley, Bonds efforts were not enough to get La Crosse its first victory, as they fell victim to a Brad Iciek touchdown pass with just 24 seconds left in the game for a 58-65 loss. Look for Coach Gilbert Brown to continue to put the ball in the hands of his star in the backfield as they take on Division foe, the Chicago Slaughter, this Friday in the Spartans fifth consecutive home contest at the La Crosse Center.

The league also announced that Arkansas Diamonds Defensive back Kenneth Fontenette and Green Bay Blizzard Kick Returner B.J. Hill were selected as the Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week respectively. Fans who would like to see highlights of these players performance's from week one should log onto the IFL website at and click on the Player of the Week icon's.

Bonds and the rest of his Spartan teammates are back in action this Friday against the Chicago Slaughter. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. . Tickets are still available and can be purchased via the La Crosse Spartans website,, or at the La Crosse Center box office. Discounted group tickets are also available by calling the team office at 608-567-4299.
