Sparks Forward Nneka Ogwumike Named WNBA Player of the Week

Los Angeles -Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played June 24 through June 29, it was announced today by the WNBA.

Earning her first Player of the Week honor this season (third of her career), Ogwumike led the Sparks to a 2-0 record for the week helping the team earn its first win streak of the season. In wins over Seattle (6/24) and Tulsa (6/28), she tied for first in the West in rebounding (9.0 rpg) and free throw percentage (1.000, 8-of-8) and ranked second in scoring (21.0 ppg) and field goal percentage (.630, 17-of-27).

On June 24, she contributed her fifth double-double of the season with a 20-point, 11-rebound effort to guide Los Angeles to its first win of the week, a 65-57 home victory vs. Seattle. In the team's second win of the week, she tallied her second 20 plus point performance with 22 points and seven boards to lead LA to a 92-89 overtime win at Tulsa.

Ogwumike is averaging 14.1 points, a team-high 7.6 rebounds and 24.9 minutes through 14 games played. Overall, she ranks 15th in the WNBA in scoring (14.1 ppg), 12th in rebounding (7.6 rpg), and eighth in field goal percentage (.530, 70-of-132).
