Atlanta's Lyttle, Los Angeles's Ogwumike Earn Player of the Week Honors

NEW YORK, June 30, 2014 - Sancho Lyttle of the Atlanta Dream and Nneka Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks were named the WNBA's Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played June 24 through June 29.

For Lyttle, who led Atlanta to a 2-0 mark as the Dream improved its Eastern Conference-leading record to 11-4, this marks the first Player of the Week award of the season and the third of her career. It also marks the third time this season a member of the Dream has earned Player of the Week honors. Erika de Souza garnered the award in week three, while Angel McCoughtry claimed the honor in week five.

For the week, Lyttle ranked fourth in the East in scoring (16.0 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (9.0 rpg), while also ranking in the top 10 in assists (3.0 apg), field goal percentage (.464, 13-of-28), and steals (1.5 spg).

The University of Houston product opened her week with 16 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, and a pair of assists in an 81-79 win at San Antonio on June 26. She then followed that up with another 16-point effort that included seven boards and four assists as Atlanta topped host Indiana, 76-68, on June 29.

For the season, Lyttle ranks second in the WNBA in steals (2.6 spg) and is tied for fourth in rebounding (9.0 rpg).

En route to earning her first Player of the Week honor of the season and the third of her career, Ogwumike - the No. 1 overall selection in the 2012 WNBA Draft presented by State Farm and a 2013 All-Star - led the Sparks to a 2-0 mark with wins over conference foes Seattle and Tulsa. For the week, Ogwumike tied for first in the West in rebounding (9.0 rpg) and free throw percentage (1.000, 8-of-8), while ranking second in scoring (21.0 ppg) and field goal percentage (.630, 17-of-27).

The former Stanford star opened the week with a 20-point, 11-rebound effort in a 65-57 home victory over Seattle on June 24. She then poured in 22 points and added seven boards in a 92-89 overtime win at Tulsa.

Following her impressive week, Ogwumike now ranks 15th in the WNBA in scoring (14.1 ppg), 12th in rebounding (7.6 rpg), and eighth in field goal percentage (.530, 70-of-132).

Other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week in the Eastern Conference were Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry, Chicago's Epiphanny Prince, Connecticut's Chiney Ogwumike, New York's Tina Charles, and Washington's Emma Meesseman. Additional candidates in the Western Conference were Minnesota's Maya Moore, Phoenix's Brittney Griner, San Antonio's Danielle Robinson, Seattle's Camille Little, and Tulsa's Skylar Diggins.
